This is my first year of college, and i basically just pick some classes that interested me. However, i intend to pick Accounting as my major. When I looked up my school's catalog, many of the classes i am taking now doesn't require for the accounting major...I just felt i wasted time taking those courses. And If i wanna pick a major, do i have to fill out application for the administration office? Or i just have to complete all the courses that required for that major. I got the catalog, and i know what courses i need to complete in that major.

I really need to know the answer, please help

Almost all majors require electives which is what you took. So you haven't wasted your time yet.

Go see a college counselor to help you figure out how to declare a major and what sequence you should take your courses.

Good luck!

If you now have the catalog, then you that as a guideline for your next course registration.Spend time to visit the Accounting Department to know the updates of your major.most of the time, changes are made in the degree plan and you might be the last person to know about it.Since you've already started taking those classes, why don't you complete them?i guess there will be no refund. That could be a plus on your record some day.Next time, see your school counselor or follow the catalog to guide you.remember that after High school, you don't registered for courses which interest you only. There are always"ugly" courses to look out in your major.

I would talk to an adviser for the Accounting department, or at least go to the College of Business and ask them your questions. Some departments make you apply and get accepted in order to take classes in their specialty. Also you could get a better idea of what are required classes and see if you can use your classes for credit. Usually the university will have requirements outside the department that your classes your taking now could count as electives or other required classes, English, Sociology, Religion, etc. What year are you? If you are a Freshman or Sophomore you still have some time. If you are a Junior, then you should take some classes in different areas you think will interest you. You also may want to take a career test at your counseling center on campus to see what occupation best suites your abilities. You also could take a general business degree if you are a Junior or Senior and are not sure what you want to do. That will allow you to get a job in several industries. Take it from me I thought I was going to be an Engineer, but after all the foreign teachers who spoke horrible English, and my aptitude wasn't where it should be I changed my major at the end of my Sophomore year and was able to graduate in 4 years (with going to Summer School). Good Luck!

I'd say the rule differs from school to school. Check with a faculty advisor in the Accounting Department and/or a counsellor in the Dean's office. I'm almost sure that at some point you are going to have to fill out some form declaring a major, but go and speak to someone now. This is their job. They deal with hundreds of students. Most of them are nice people who want to help you.

Time in learning anything is never wasted, my man. You can use those courses as "electives."

For your major, go the office of the chair of that department and ask the secretary. They know more than the Chairman, and she will give you a handout that will explain everything. Never alienate a secretary; they help more kids to get through college than the world will ever know.
