Wow, that's a tough one. I usually wear Burberry's but recently started wearing Ralph Lauren's Romance. Every since then, I have "at least" one person a day tell me how good I smell. I prefer the Burberry but others around me seem to like the Romance.

It is a shame you did not describe the sort of person she is - the reason behind this is I am of the same age and status as your friend and I love wearing black and dark makeup so I usually go for perfumes as Deep Red by Hugo Boss and LouLou by Cacheral as these are deep smelling but for daytime wear I love Very Valentino by Valentino which is a subtle floral fragrance. Work out the sort of perfume by whether you would be buying this for occasional use or daily use - I like the smell of Miss Dior by Christian Dior, J-Lo by Jennifer Lopez - CK One by Calcin Klien is a good winner as is Feminine by Dolce and Gabbana. I think what you buy will be dependant on the budget you set yourself. Quality is always better than quantity.

Depends entirely on her personality. Why not go to a local store, try some testers, see what you like then go home and order online ? Pefume is such a personal thing ! Is she sporty, sultry, trendy, sophisticated ? Perfumes come in florals, aldehydics, orientals etc. I love the spicy, oriental, sexy ones like Poison, Opium.. some people hate them and prefer the newer crisp oceanic types which I detest.. Good luck it's a bit of a gamble ! Don't you have an idea what she normally wears or wore in the past ?

Best thing to do is to ask her husband what she like. Ask him if the perfume she is wearing now have a sweet scent, talc powder scent, etc. She might be allergic to certain scent and that's the last thing you want. It's also on how much you want to spend on your friend. For someone that's 36 years of age you might go with Chanel no.5. It's quite expensive (1/2 oz it's about $95.00.

I am in love with a new scent from The Body Shop.

It's called Neroli Jasmine.

If you're friend likes florals, try Gardenia, too. If she likes clean scents, Oceanus is awesome, which is very fresh smelling.

If she's a picky sort, there's a set you can buy from The Body Shop that has a range of different pure scents in one box that she can mix so she can create her own signature perfume. The line is called Invent Your Scent. I love the body shop lines of fragrances because they carry so many different forms, like perfume, body sprays, soap, lotions, all in your favorite scent.

Oh my gosh, you've picked truly a tough one! Perfume is one of the hardest things to pick as a gift! Why don't you check with her kids and get them to find out what's on her dressing table? Or take her shopping, that's a better idea, take her to dinner and suggest some Christmas shopping and get her near a perfumery! Or, call a Mary Kay lady and have her help!

Hi there, the perfume I am wearing and going to buy over and over again is Elizabeth Arden, 5th Avenue, it smells beautiful and it doesn't wear off, once you've sprayed it you can smell it all day and night until you've howered, and whats best at the moment if you live in the U.K you can go to Superdrug and buy a 125ml bottle for £15, its 90% off at the moment, the original cost for 125ml is £50, if you go into the perfume shop and ASK HOW MUCH IT COSTS FOR 30MLS OF ELIZABETH ARDEN, 5th AVENUE, they will give you their price off £12.50 for 30 ml, in superdrug if you decide to buy go for the 125ml bottle reduced from £50 to £15 but the 30ml size is not reduced and costs £12.50 from superdrug also. Another perfume which smells lovely is called Surrender, its from the Avon catalogue, maybe its not designer or anything but belive me it smells lovely and like Elizabeth Arden the smell when sprayed on yourself doesn't go away after an hour or so the smell of the perfume stays on for hours and hours, it is a lovely scent and you can get the gift set with body lotion, perfume and bath/gel wash, Surrender from Avon comes in a lovely bottle and is a great buy at £15 for the set, its certainly something I would appreciate, I got it as a gift and I liked it that much I had to find out where it was from and went and ordered some more. Another set is Versace, its a bit more expensive, it smells nice but I would say Elizabeth Arden, 5th Avenue was best out of the lot, and you geta huge bottle at a discount. I have all 3 and thats my favourite, then the Surrender is my 2nd fav, and Versace which believe it or not was much more expensive, its a nice smell but the scent goes away very quickly wich shouldn't happen with it being the price it is. One perfume that I am dying to try is J Lo, Glow or one of her other scents, or I'd try Beyonce's scent. I would reccommend the first one, Elizabeth Arden, 125ml for £15 yet the 30ml bottle is £12.50 from same shop. Now thats a bargain and for a lady of her age is very suitable. Hope you find one that she likes and you like. One point I forgot your buying it online, I don't know if superdrug do online sales, but if it doesn't then go for the Surrender from Avon,it smells like heaven, I got as a gift, ran out and had to find out where it was fom to buy more, Go for that one if you can't get Elizabeth Arden, 5th Avenue. You could still get 5th Avenue but I don't know if you would get it at the bargain price that superdrug is doing the 125ml bottle for, but look around. Happy Shopping, hope you find the right one. If you can't get 5th Avenue at that price I'd still buy it as it is a lovely scent, and longer you wear it the better it gets. I'm going on, I know, I'l shut up and let you get on with picking your pressie out.

Does the perfume she wear smell sweet, heavy, flowery?

Light fragrances - Chloe Narcisse, Happy (Clinique)
Pleasures (E. Lauder). Paris (Yves St. L)

Heavy fragrance - Opium (Yves St. L) , Poison (C.Dior) Samsara (Guarlain)

Hope that helps - either way, what ever you choose, she'll be happy. :)
