Take advantage of all the training that the dealership affords you. Educate yourself on sales techniques, make sure you really know how to talk to people and make them feel comfortable. Be genuine, be sincere. Know the product (car) you represent.
Always dress the part...If they require you to wear polo type shirts, make sure it is pressed and your pants have creases in them EVERY day - Make yourself stand out....
Be truthful - Do not lie to get business, if you mislead your clients they will not recommend you to their friends.....You treat your clients like gold, they will refer you to someone they know.
Always always always follow up every sale with a personal note that you write yourself....not the company's dime...yours. You can also take a picture of all your sales with their new cars and hang them up in your desk area....
People love this stuff....you have to excite people and make them feel good about themselves and about the deal!
Good Luck!

Okay sales is all about the first 10 minutes.
Hi, I'm NAME
Can I show you that?
How can I help you?
Get their name and call them by it.
Hand them your business card right then!
Most folks want to Shop- that's the "go away" cue.
Sure, your reply! If you tell me what you like or your price point I will save you some time and show you where to SHOP>
Repeat what they say- Okay its your son's first car and you have a trade IN, great! Let's consider what purpose this will serve besides a great convenience for you to not drive him everywhere.
So do you want sporty, economy or safety for him? All the above- a small used truck would be the best choice for a new driver. Why? cause, that way he can't be distracted by too many friends in the cab and can make some extra money with that truck to help pay for insurance. Sound good?
Let me get your phone number and email and used car information "Mike" . We can plan to get an estimate on the trade in and make plans then. I can check the lot and computer/other locations and see what we have that suits your needs. Do you want the parental GPS system put into it? Its a great feature to help protect him and give you the parental control to keep him in check. Boys will be boys as you know.
Talk SLOW and Calm. I hate fast pressure talker.
You need to read Zig ZIgglar books, in the library and "who moved my cheese?" these are great books to help with customizing your sales moves.
I always hung out and lunched with the REALLY profitable sales persons and listened and learned.

Carsalesmen is no different than any other type of salesman. You moust know th product you are trying to sell. Ask the customer what type of vehicle they are looking for. Try to fit their needs as much as possible. Avoid talkinga bout finances at first because that will push the customers away. It is almost like trying to tell them they cannot afford it or you are trying to hustle their money.
When I look for a car, I hate the first question. "Let us check your credit and see what youare qualified for?" -that right there is a no, no becuase you do not know if that person has another loan approved to seek a purchase.
Be confident on selling. Put yourself as though you love that car and make them feel that is it.
Good luck and I am sure you will do fine. If your nervous, it is ok. But if you get too cocky, than things will go down hill.

Be yourself with smiles, develop a client list, work your client list, leave your business cards everywhere you go. Always offer a handshake and know your inventory. KNOW YOUR INVENTORY! You can run your own ads in the paper as long as you have approval from the owner. It might seem like a lot of money but it will also make you a lot of money. Live like a pauper until you get rolling. Join different organizations, men's club, Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, get involved. Now if your really serious you will do these things and yes, it's a lot of work but, your the one that picked this profession and it's a good one. Never be caught in a lie, have integrity and you will have a sucessful career. Bet your sorry you asked ha? Good Luck

1. Know your inventory, you can't sell a product if you don't even know you have what the customer wants, even a car with an ash tray can make the difference if your customers are smokers.
2. don't promise what you wouldn't write down in a contract.
3. when you ask a question and the customers says No,- ask WHY and shut up... let them come back to you.

Threat any and all customers with respect, since you never know what they do, have done, will do with their lives. My grandpa (a farmer) went to a cadillac dealership and couldn't get helped to save his life. On his way out, he let the dealership know that he had a bank balance that would have bought their entire inventory. Their loss.

Learn to listen to your customers, they will tell you what they want. And everyone hates an overbearing salesperson. It's possible to be successful without being an a**hole.
