I love mythology. I know a lot about most of the gods. Athena is the god of knowledge and war. Supposedly, she sprang from Zues's head after Hephaestus hit him in tha head with an axe. She also was identified as the goddess of peace.

Athena was the patron goddess of Athens, but also the goddess of Wisdom. And War, but in a different way that Ares. Ares was a mad slaughterer, and Athena I think was more about defense. She was smarter and more measured.

Her bird was the owl. She was a virgin goddess, who never produced offspring. She sprang, fully grown and armored, from the head of Zeus (there's some interesting stories about that but not enough room for them here).

The best way to get to know this goddess is to do a search and read up on some of the stories with her in them.

It sounds like a fun project, good luck!

Well she sprung full grown in full armor from the head of Zeus (He had eaten her mother and had himself hit with axe to release Athena)

She was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, she was not the goddess of war but she was a warrior and carried the head of Medusa as one of her weapons.

She turned Atlas into stone to alleviate his pain of having to hold the up the world.

Most people confuse her with Artemis the sister of Apollo since Aretimis was the virgin archer and Athena mainly used a spear

She created the olive tree to win a contest with Poseidon over patronship of an island

She was main Goddess behind allowing Odysseus to return home after being left adrift by the Gods after Trojan War.

Athena goddess of wisdom. I believe her resposibilities was to give great knowledge to those who need it and protection. It is said that she was created from the thought of Zeus. Theirs three stories about her. The first is the fight about the name of a city with Posiedon. Posiedon gave the citizens salt from the oceans and Athena gave them the olive tree. With it Athena won and the city became known as Athens. The second is the story of Medusa. Medusa was a priestess of one of Athena's temples. Posiedon fell in love with Medusa and they met in the temple. Athena got mad and turn Medusa hair into snakes and made her so hidious that anyone who looks at her turns to stone. Athena also turned her two sisters the same way when they tried to hide Medusa. The third is the story of Arachni or was it Arachnid (can't remember). As it is Arachni had long slender fingers and can creat beautiful tapistries. In it she insulted Athena and when Athena went infront of her; Arachni challenged her on weaving a tapistry. In the challange Athena got made at Arachni tapestry not because it was better but it was insulted the gods. So Athena turned Arachni into a spider. Magical motifs I am not sure of.

she was the goddess of war, and she liked it when there was trouble. much like george w bush.
her male counterpart was aries. and they were always in competition. they would side with different sides, like in the trojan war. thus they would help their sides along by giving them weapons and miracles.
the origin of athena, is that her father, zues, the king of the gods, got her mother pregnant, and as soon as she was born, zues ate her (gross!). after a while he began to complain of a headache. it became so bad, that he got someone to split his head open with an axe. and out jumped athena, fully geared in battle kit. there is more to that story though, i just cant remember the details though. sorry.

Athena was the Olympian goddess of wise counsel, war, the defense of towns, heroic endeavor, weaving, pottery and other crafts. She was depicted crowned with a crested helm, armed with shield and spear, and wearing the snake-trimmed aegis cloak wrapped around her breast and arm, adorned with the monstrous head of the Gorgon. Athena was also the patron diety of "Classical" Athens.

“I begin to sing of Pallas Athena, the glorious goddess, bright-eyed, inventive, unbending of heart, pure virgin, saviour of cities, courageous, Tritogeneia (Of Trito Born). From his awful head wise Zeus himself bare her arrayed in warlike arms of flashing gold, and awe seized all the gods as they gazed. But Athena sprang quickly from the immortal head and stood before Zeus who holds the aegis, shaking a sharp spear: great Olympos began to reel horribly at the might of the grey-eyed goddess, and earth round about cried fearfully, and the sea was moved and tossed with dark waves, while foam burst forth suddenly: the bright Son of Hyperion [the Sun] stopped his swift-footed horses a long while, until the maiden Pallas Athena had stripped the heavenly armour from her immortal shoulders. And wise Zeus was glad. Hail to you, daughter of Zeus who holds the aegis!” - Homeric Hymn 29 to Athena
