I would suggest a prenatal vitamin. I would say start taking it now so you are in the habit when you start trying. Also... taking it before conception is the best because it can be up to 6 weeks before you find out you are pregnant and your baby needs the folic acid to prevent some types of birth defects. Good luck

It's definitely okay to start taking them!! I've been TTC (trying to conceive) for about 2 years now, and right after I started taking Clomid, my M.D. told me to start taking prenatal vitamins to 1) Just in case I do get pregnant, I will already have a significant amount of Folic Acid to great reduce my chance of miscarriage. 2) Prenatal vitamins are only for women, so the vitamins we need are in there. 3) They do amazing things for your nails, hair, and skin. Just make sure to drink plenty of water, limit caffeine and wasted calories (like soda, and candy), and if you're TTC SEX SEX SEX!! If you have any other TTC questions, believe me, I know it!! I've been working on this for a long time. Still not pregnant, and the doctor told me that it'll be a miracle when I do get pregnant, but we're still working on it. Go ahead and take those prenatal vitamins! It won't hurt anything. It'll only help!! Good luck and baby dust!

The One a Day is fine...but if you want, you can actually take prenatal vitamins beginnig about 2-3 months before attempting conception. Taking prenatal vitamins ensures that your body is recieving all of the nutrients needed to support a growing fetus. (Folic Acid is the most important one and there is a lot of it in prenatal vitamins)
I took them 3 months before conception with my last pregnancy, but unfortunately I miscarried...NOT BECAUSE OF THE VITAMINS THOUGH...I had concieved multiples (triplets) and my body rejected them for chromosoanl abnormalities. (though I am convinced that it was divine intervention because I already have 4 kids and would have gone crazy with three newborns!) But, when I told my OB that we wanted to try again...she told me to continue to take my prenatal vitamins. I did and am now 36 weeks along with one very healthy baby girl!
Good luck and Congratulations!

Doctor told me to start when I started trying, but it was okay to take one instead of two a day. (On the bottle it says for preg women take 2, others take one.) One advantage to taking them early: they make your hair and nails grow faster.

Take them when your doctor says so, but you should start eating a healthier diet now. The better nutrients your eating the healthier your baby will be.
