What rights do I have a 16 year old... and which ones do I gain at 17? Like my mom is always like, "its mine not yours cause you are still a minor".. So does that mean the job that I have is her money that I make? I work for my money, and if I was to go buy a laptop, which she doesnt want me to, could she take it from me cause I am a minor even though I bout it with my money?... I just need some legal addvice and what my rights are as a 16 and 17 year old.. THANKS!!

Morgan,
Unfortunately, you have little to no rights, as others have commented. However, the money you make should be yours. If she was to take that from you, I would question her parenting style. Yet, legally nothing can be done. If I were you, I would not rebel and buy one. Keep saving. Technology gets better every day so in a couple of years, you may be able to afford a high-end, more expensive laptop. She is trying to look out for your best interest and protect you at the same time. Just look at it as a way to save. If you really want to do some spending, you might impress her by wanting to invest in a ROTH-IRA.
Legally speaking, being 16/17 years of age works more against you than for you. For instance, I am from the now less great state of Wisconsin where, at 16 and 17, I could be legally tried as an adult should I have committed a crime. The state would just have needed to prove I was capable of thinking like an adult. Now I'm 19 so anything goes. I disgress. In any case, keep saving. You will be able to afford more.

good luck, you dont have rights until you are 18 years old. Surely your mom is not that CRAZY to take away something like a laptop that you worked for and paid so much money for!! Hide it from her! lol :)
GOOD LUCK!

really until you are 18 you have no rights. But it's tricky. No she can't tell you what to do with your money cause it's yours but yes she can take the things you buy with that money :)

not until your 18, but its better if you listened to your mom.. she probably doesnt want you to go down the wrong path... She thinks that if she gives you the freedom right now, you'll drift away from the family.. Try talking to her.. Listen to her side, CALMLY tell her yours.. Dont worry all mothers' are strict from the outside nd soft from the inside..

good luck!

It depends on what state you live in . But contact a lawyer and ask about becoming emancipated. It depends on the circumstances but sometimes the courts will grant it. Good Luck

your mother owns you until you are 18, but thats mean that she wont let you buy what you want with the money you worked for. she should be thankful you are not asking her for money to buy stuff.

Depends what state you live in..but when your 18..consider a young adult choices you make are upon you..other words your responsible for yourself..Mom & Dad donst have to help you....but rule of thumb is respect your Parents while you live with them..
