You might check the power cable going to the sound system and see whether there might be a short in the cable, or near where the cable goes into the AC adapter or the speakers. Try playing a song and then jiggle the cable to see if the power seems to cut out.

If that doesn't help, you could open the computer up and make sure the sound card is snugly in its socket (if you're not using an on-board sound device).

Goto Device Manager (Start>Run>compmgmt.msc). Search for ur audio card there. If there's a concern with it, u will see a yellow "!" subsequent to it. Just double-click on on it, press Reinstall Drivers, insert the driving force CD (almost always ur motherboard cd), reboot, the whole thing will have to be exceptional now. Even if this did not paintings, get Service Pack two to your XP after which take a look at once more.

Check your speaker plugs and the jacks they plug into first. If they are ok, you could have a sound board starting to go flaky. I doubt if your Media Player is the problem as it wouldn't make static in just one speaker.

If all the hardware checks out, try a different media player, like winamp.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
