A pound of feathers is heavier because it is 16 onces to the pound but gold is measured in the troy weight scale with only 12 onces to the pound.

Scientifically they are the same weight. But in the real world, since gold is far more dense that feather, it seems heavier in all respects. Human perception is limited and easy to misguide. In this case, for good reason.

If I tossed you a 1 pound feather pillow at 10 feet per second, you could catch it easily, and it would not make much impact as it arrived in your hands. It would have slowed appreciably as it traveled 10 feet to you because of air resistance. If I tossed you a 1 pound gold ball, you might easily drop it or hurt your hand when you caught it. It would arrive at 10 feet per second, and could do quite a bit of damage to anything it hit.

;-D In any case, I would rather have the 1 pound of gold if it's all the same to you. Just don't drop it on my toe when you give it to me!

A pound is a measure of weight. They both weigh 1 lb. Neither is heavier than the other.

While the weight of the two objecta are the same the volume is not. They both have the same weight, however the volume of feathers is much larger than that of the gold.

Steve 'art told you the correct answer. Both are pound but gold is measured differently. The pound of feathers weigh more by 4oz because it is measured with a different scale.

If the items are side by side then they weigh the same. If one item is at sea level and the other on Mt. Everest then they will weigh slightly different. The closer to the earths core, the greater the gravitational pull.
