Not a chance. Santana is an amazing pitcher and i think he is the best in the MLB. I also think that all this hype about Matsuzaka is nothing, because it has been proven that most not all but most Japanese players are not good when coming to the MLB. It is a very hard transition from Japanese ball to MLB, i wish him and the Red Sox luck this season, but he will probably be Mediocre.

I think Matsuzaka could be a very good MLB pitcher, but I can't imagine him being better than Santana. I'm sure his stuff, especially the gyroball, with throw hitters for a loop, but it's too much to expect him to be a Cy Young candidate when he's making the jump to the majors from Japan, which is essentially a high-AAA league.

I believe Matsuzaka will fall into the "good" range of pitchers, but not the "great" range that covers guys like Santana.

well santana is a 2 time cy young winner, consistent high teen winner and probably the best young pitcher in the game.
matsuzaka will most likely be good but to have a season better than santana, this early on in his big league career might be hard.

No, I actually most pitchers will have a better season than Santana. Roy Halladay and maybe Chris Carpenter are the only names that come to mind that could.

No Matsuzaka will have to learn the league and adjust to playing in The USA harder for a pitcher to do that than a hitter give him one year if not two and he might just be a pile of garbage his whole career, look at all the Japanese pitchers that have had one two or zero good years and they were highly touted.

You're talking about an unproven triple A pitcher verses and Cy Young Award winning pitcher! I rest my case!! Hey guys, just a footnote but did you I got kicked off for wishing everyone a happy holiday? Makes you wonder what kind of people are running around in here!!

No way, I wouldn't set the bar that high on Matz just yet. I say 15 wins, ERA hovering around 4 for Matz. Santana is good for 200K, 16-20 wins

He'll be luck to post better numbers than Hideo Nomo did in his ROY season with the Dodgers. Don't be surprised is his numbers look something like this:

14 Wins
4.50+ ERA
160 Ks

He's going to a hitters park in one of THE most difficult markets to play in. If the guy has ice in his veins, he might be better then the #s above. However, to compare him to Santana is just...silly.

I dont think so, Dice-k as i like to call him is basically a prayer for the red sox. Lets ask ourselves a question, what are the red sox baseing his talent on, playing in a japanese league?

Dice-k is going to have a hard time getting used to playing every 5 days, in japan each pitcher plays every week, so they get an extra 2 days of rest for there arms.

The red sox are looking for any prayer so they can contend with the yankees, after the yankees picked up pettite, that really put the pressure on the sox to make a deal.

Another quick note, the yankees, astros, and red sox are trying to make a deal with roger clemons, but look for clemens to go to the yankees after fellow pitcher andy pettite has already signed with them, and they wanted to pitch together.

No, matsuzaka will have a terrible year and will be a bust for the Red Sox. Japanse pitchers dont really have a good track record in the US
