1. Data - 81, 84, 78, 81, 81
rearrange in ascending order : 78,81,81,81,84
The median is the number in the middle = 81
the mode is the number that occurs most frequently = 81
The mean is the average = 405/5= 81
The range is the largest number minus the smaller = 84-78 = 6

Now when you add 83 the series is 78, 81,81,81,83,84
The median is average of 81 and 81 = 81 (no change)
The mode is 81 (no change)
The mean is 488/6= 81.33 ( slight change)
The range is still 6 (no change)

So the mean changed the most

The second question cannot be answered because have not stated the new number.

The problems Listed under additional comments you should now be able to do your self:
a) Place the numbers in ascending order
b) The median will be the number in the middle if there is an odd number of terms. If there is an even number, then you must take the average of the two numbers closest to the middle
c) The mode is the number that occurs most frequently. It is possible to have more than one mode.
d) The mean is simply the sum of all the numbers divided by the number of numbers.
e) The range is simply the largest number - the smallest number.

Now, go get "em.

In your first data set without the new number, the mean is 81, mode is 81 and median is 81.

When you add in the new number the mean is 81.3, the mode is 81 and the median is 81.

You don't have a new number for the second set. But without the new number the mean is 86, the mode is 92 and the median is 87.
