When we were watching the TV programme most haunted the lasses screamed and the chaps went aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh........ I noticed this and ever since have noticed it more and more are men so scared of showing that they can too scream and are women just more prone to screaming than shouting aaahhhhhhhhhh??????

Well I read on some music production site that it was to do with frequency.
Obviously a woman screaming is of a higher frequency than that of a male. Generally women's voices operate in the higher registers as compared to men.
Male audio perception is receptive to the frequencies of a woman's scream. I think there is a fairly obvious reason for this. Being how important females are to males to pass on their genes
So when a woman is in some kind of danger she can probably be heard further and by more people (especially men).
I am not sure this is scientific fact but based on what I have read but it seemed to make some sense to me.

TV programmes does not necessarily show the real world :-)
I think the women got this idea from movies. When women in movies finds dead bodies they always scream, men don't.
I'm sure I wouldn't get out even a small ah, if that happened to me (knock on wood)

probably down to the different pitch in men and womens voices. i know a gay guy who screams worse than any woman i know. it's funny isn't it!!

women are more expressive. they tend to display their emotion more. they scream to let go of their fear. men make a aaaaaaaaaah sound to buy time for themselves to think how to react.......
