If you go to WIKPEDIA and enter Playstation 3, it states thet all Playstation 3 games are region free, therefore no regional coding on the discs or drives. So I wouldnt worry about games not working like some people state. Its just an assumtion at present.

Yes, but as it is a different region, British games won't work in a Japanese machine.

There fore you would need to convert the playstation to allow Region 3 games.

Each Continent and country have different regions, both in Dvd's and games. The UK is region 3

I don't think so. The blu-ray drive, I believe, is similar to that of a dvd drive, in which every major section of the planet has it's own "region" (ie. USA is region 1, UK is region 2, etc.) One regions' discs won't play on another regions' dvd player, so you'd have to be importing japanese discs to play on that PS3. I'd ask your local electronics store for more details.

It doesn't really matter whether it works or not (it won't because Japan runs on 100v not 240v) - as its classed as a 'grey import', Sony will NOT honour the warranty if it goes faulty!

Yes, a PS3 console would work anywhere.

If or when you get a console from another non-english speaking country, all you will have to do is change the language settings to english.

settings are basically the same, and its a lot cheaper in japan.

i.e. All PS3 consoles would work anywhere... depends on the electricity socket.
