You have Aaron Sorkin, who wrote Sports Night and The West Wing. Matthew Perry is astounding and should get an Emmy nomination. And putting Bradley Whitford and Amanda Peet together on the show is a great storyline in the making... maybe having Steven Weber jealous of Bradley would be great!

Hee hee hee... I think that anyone who says that it is stupid, just isn't smart enough to understand the humor.
I think it is witty, quick and makes you stay on your toes.
I love Aaron Sorkins method of writing, and Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitfords banter makes the show.
I think they need to make Amanda Peets character more like that of a studio exec. but I love what she's done with the character they have given her.
You know who is brilliant, though, but who rarely gets mentioned is Timothy Busfield. I would like to see him more, but I understand he's been behind the camera directing.

I was (and still am) a HUGE West Wing fan. The writing and the story lines were just amazing. So when I found out that West Wing was ending I was very disappointed. I jumped on the Studio 60 bandwagon right away to help deal with my West Wing withdrawal. Hey, you figure: Aaron Sorkin, Bradley Whitford, Amanda Peet and Matthew Perry would make a great show. Plus Timothy Busfield (Danny!!!). Great show, right?

I don't know what happened, but Studio 60 doesn't come close to The West Wing. I think part of the problem with the show being a "smart show" is that the creative team is trying to sell it as a smart show. They're trying too hard and it's showing. It's missing something. Studio 60 isn't smart and it isn't funny. I stopped watching sometime in November and don't have any plans to start again. Too bad. I miss Leo. ^_^

I still watch it because I'll basically watch anything that has people I like in it. The people are great, but the show definitely is missing something. There doesn't seem to be any tension. Their "crises" don't engage the audience. Maybe we just don't care about the backstage drama behind a comedy show - at least not in a serious way. Maybe they should just make the show funny, it certainly isn't working as a drama.

Considering they have all that talent and keep wasting it with bad plotlines, bad writing, and an insufferable smugness that is mirrored in the show's poor ratings, I'd say that it may just be the most stupid show on TV.

Don't misunderstand - I like the premise, but they are going about it all wrong.
