Yes. Limewire is bad for computers! When you scan your computer with any anti-spyware software, you will notice that it is an ad-ware.

Why p2p programs are bad for laptops?
Laptops are smaller and have lesser resources than an average PC and the components are more susceptible to damage. For e.g. the Harddisk drives.
Most , if not all, p2p softwares consume a lot of resources for a very small purpose thereby locking up resources that could be used elsewhere. Torrents in particular use clients that will cause too many disk access requests and spoil the hard drive slowly.
laptops rely on Power Management a lot. If an application uses too many resources the laptop continues to deliver power accordingly, even though you are not actually doing a lot of work. Leading to battery juice depleting faster. This also lends to overheating as laptops are not Workhorses like PCs.
If all of this does not matter to you then there is little reason why you should think of any difference between limewire (like) programs on laptops.
Use Internet Radio instead :)

Interesting question ...
First off - laptop is as much of a computer as your desktop, just smaller, which makes it more portable.
I personally do not use my laptop for music download simply because I don't want to mess around with it if something goes wrong. My desktop though - I don't care, I built it - I know everything about it.
Soooo - you CAN put limewire on your laptop, and it will be working just as good as it would on a desktop, and as far as I know - Limewire is still the best for music - just make sure you don't download and open anything fishy, or you'll mess up you computer ;).
Here is a list of some p2p programs you might be interested in:

Note: some of them are torrent client, which are better for movies and games, and not for music.

The fact that you have a laptop has no bearing on Limewire being bad...PC or Notebook it doesn't matter.
Faster downloads is the key to a laptop because of less battery usage.
