A question invented when clocks used a pendulum and houses were not air-conditioned. Wow.

The longer the pendulum, the more time it takes to go through its cycle.
The pendulum and clock are matched so that the clock marks a certain number of seconds for a precise number of swings.

If the pendulum grows longer because of heat, then the pendulum swing takes longer. The clock has to wait longer before marking off the same number of seconds. Therefore, the clock will become late (it loses time).

In the "good old" days, houses were not as evenly heated as today, so it was possible for a clock (sometimes against an outside wall) to get colder in winter and at night, warmer during summer days.

Because of a typo (I guess), your choices do not include the answer.

Your answers don't contain the correct response which is

The time period increases because it will take longer for the pendulum to swing through its arc as its length has increased. The pendulum is the timer or heart of the clock. In some clocks there were compensating rods which had negative temperature coefficients attached to the pendulum to offset the effects of temperature so that the clocks remained accurate.

Negative temperature coefficiency means that as the temperature increased the length of the metal decreased.

Maybe the heat makes the clock tired (we all like to snooze in the sun), and it just doesn't feel like ticking so fast.
