I have a maid come into my house once every two weeks. They vacuum, dust, wash all the floors and bathrooms. I work a lot as well and to me this was an incredible way to beat some of that stress. Plus I am very excited when I come home after they have been there. Well worth it. Look at it this way it costs the equivalent of a manicure/pedicure you are helping someone else economically and if you have kids like I do, you get to spend some quality time with them instead of nagging and cleaning.

This is a question that you must do some research on. You need to inquire from several of the cleaning services that offer maid service and see what they offer and what they charge. You have to be careful to, of whom and when you want them in your home.
I would suggest that you do what I have done. I am not rich either, and when I worked at a day care center for 10 hours a day.
I did what I could on the time that I had off and even did some of the cleaning that had to be done on the weekends.
If you can not afford the maid service, then I suggest you make you a daily list and list tasks that you can do each day of the week.
2-3 tasks a day would probably be cheaper for you in the long run than hiring the maid service.
I used to clean homes for people and the going rate was 65-70 dollars for about 2-3 hours of work. This is just the basics---not the deep down cleaning.
Hope that this helps you out.

Tiff, I am two sided on this one...on one hand I think if you have kids, maybe you can start them doing chores to help and reward them for the job by how well it was done. If you have teenagers, they should be pitching in anyway. Is there a man in the house? Hello, they can help also! Second point, I have worked for Merry Maids, and then on my own, cause they charged the customer so much. I had 11 ladies I cleaned for and trust me, when they came home at the end of the day and walked in, had I been there they would have kissed my feet for the good job I did. i knew if I were paying that money what would I want. I always tried to go the extra mile and do a little something over and above. I was paid by the house, somedays a tornadoe, some days they hardly looked used, so it evened out in price.
Whatever you do, check the person out, some people are not trustworthy in your home. When I was with MM I saw some of the girls take the customers medicines and jewelry, that is when I decided to go on my own, if anything got broke etc, I knew I was the only one to be responsible for it. An independent person can get bonded and insured at a very reasonable fee. Good luck, you might also check into a once or twice home organizer to come in and redo your closets, kitchen cabinets, make your living area more efficient. Good luck:)

RE:
Should I hire a maid?
I'm not rich, but I work 60 hours a week, and my house is a disaster!! Should I hire a maid? Are they worth it? What will they clean?

I'm not rich either, but I pay someone to clean my house. The way I rationalize it -- my free time is worth more to me than what I pay for someone else to clean my house. If you're already working 60 hours a week, you could probably use a little extra time to yourself.
My cleaning person comes by every two weeks and she mops the hardwood/ceramic floors, vacuums the carpets, wipes down the exterior of the cabinets and appliances, cleans the sinks (kitchen and bathrooms), cleans the showers and bathtubs, dusts the window sills, furniture, and knickknacks. I have a 3400 square foot home and it takes her about 3/12 - 4 hours. I pay $75 every two weeks - which is a GREAT rate. I shopped around to the chain cleaning services like Merry Maids, and they would easily charge 2-3 times that.
Another thing to think about when you bring someone in to do a service in your house -- make sure they are licensed, bonded, and have evidence of insurance coverage. Call the insurance agency and verify their insurance. The last thing you need is for a cleaning person to slip, fall and break their neck on your kitchen floor -- and for them to not have insurance. I would recommend a minimum limit of $500,000 in general liability, and the statutory minimum on workers compensation insurance.
Hope this information helps!

Hey tiff. My name is Onika and I run a home and office cleaning service. I'm not trying to solicit you but getting a maid or a cleaner is such a natural thing for working people now. People don't have the time like they used to before. If you are getting a company to come clean, make sure that they background check all their employees before they send one to your home. If you're in NY you can check out my website www.avantgardecleaning.com

if you can afford it why not. Yes if you can afford it it is worth it..have someone come like once every 2 weeks (or month) and work a few hrs cleaning.
You will have to decide how important it is to you... get a maid or not spend and only you can tell that =).

If you can afford why not. (They are human, just earning for a living) If you are worried you can get a part time maid. Get them over when your at home and do not leave them alone in the house. From there you can observe what she doing and also can instruct her whatever you need the things be done.
