In Bahrain. Ashura, the Shiite Muslim commemoration of the death of Imam Hussain. Hundreds of thousands of people participate and it includes processions of men chanting, beating their chests and a bit of blood-letting amongst other things.
It also takes place in Iran, Pakistan, Lucknow, India and now that Saddam's gone, Karbala (the place that he was actually murdered in 626). Sunni Muslim ruling parties have made it illegal in most other Muslim countries.
Ashura takes place in the Islamic month of Muharram, and as the Islamic calendar is lunar, the time changes each year. This year it will be at the end of January.

I went to Oktoberfest Zinzinnati (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) a few years ago. It is held at the end of September.
Vern Troyer (Mini-Me from the Austin Powers movies) led the whole crowd in the Chicken Dance.

Can't remember the name of the town but it was near Columbia, South Carolina. They had an annual Okra festival. I think it was in late summer-early fall.

The festival was pretty straightforward, but the name is strange. Toad Suck Daze is Conway Arkansas. It's the beginning of May.
