I have iTunes on my computer and my son had a coupon for some free downloads and when he tried to use it he said he got a message stating he needed a subscription. I bought him an iPod for Xmas and an iTunes gift card. Is this going to cost me more money now???

To use iTunes - no, you do not need to sign up or anything, just download the software, but if you want to redeem the coupon or gift card - you'll have to register, and then log in from your computer so they know that's you using the money. To register you will need your creditcard #, but they won't charge you for anything, unless you start shopping for songs or videos from iTunes.
There is a parental control option with new iTunes, I'd suggest using it, and disabling the music store and any purchases to make sure your kid doesn't get you a bill on your CC.

Good luck ;).

If you want to buy more music from iTunes, it will. Otherwise, your son can put his CD collection into the computer and convert them using the iTunes software.
