Because they are already known by their maiden name, which half the time isn't their real name either. Or they are using their middle name as their last name, etc. I am not a celebrity, but after being married and then divorced and the hassle of changing my name and then changing it back, I have decided that I will keep my maiden name if I ever remarry. That's simply because I didn't like the idea of having to ask a judge and get permission to use the name that is on my birth certificate. But that's just me.

some only keep their maiden name to use professionally because that is how they are known, for example when jennifer and brad got married, she changed her legal name to jennifer pitt, but used aniston professionally. Many women that have established something prior to marrigae ie doctors, lawyers, etc keep their maiden name because its a pain in the *** in terms of degrees and licenses

i believe they keep their maiden names because they are sooo well known by that name already, and to change it could result in them not be recognized, or even looked over, so that is why they keep their maiden names.

Because when you are in Hollywood, your name is your identity. Most women use both last names. but professionally go by their maiden name.

That is their stage name and if they are already established they don't want to use it. They sometimes do legally just not for their stage name. Some don't even use their real first name. Look at Reese Witherspoon she would be Laura Phillippe and Faith Hill would be Audrey McGraw.

A celebrity's name is like a brand. If you switch up the name, the fans might get confused or discouraged when they find out that you're taken. Sometimes, when a celebrity is taken, they're less marketable.

Because in Hollyweird that is what it's all about. Most marriages end within 2 years and they don't want to go through the trouble of changing their names.

It's not just celebrities, but people who are prominent in their field, like doctors and certain scholars, tend to retain the name they started with, in order to maintain the same identity/image and recognizability.
