Looking for a place between Texas and Alabama, but other suggestions are fine. Also, education isn't cheap, best answer is name, location and cost of tuition.

US News has a list of the top Education programs. Harvard and Columbia top the list.

Vanderbilt looks like the best one in the South. There are several state universities on th elist if you are concerned about money.

There are so many specialities in this field that it is too hard to answer without more information. What will your emphasis be? (teacher education, higher education/student affairs, evaluation, counseling, etc.) One school may be highly ranked in one area, and not so highly ranked for another. You can't just base your decision on US News or some other list.

Are you interested in earning a MA in Education or the M.Ed.? That's also another factor.

Take a look at the education directory at justcolleges.com, they have a list of schools and you can contact the schools to get more info. The schools will send you brochures and other matieral which will definitely help you narrow your choices.

university of wisconsin, madison is ranked as the number one school for a MA in Education
