I have had 2 of them. It isn't really painful, just uncomfortable..take some advil before you go in just in case. The results of both of mine were luckily negative!! Good luck with yours! Just try to relax while you are in there..it doesn't help at all to be all tensed up.

And I really mean a colposcopy...not a colonoscopy like these other people!!

I've had one. In a colposcopy they remove a small section of the cervix for examination under a microscope. It was just a tiny bit uncomfortable, and I did have a bit of bleeding afterwards. I was diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer. That was in 2004. I have had treatments and remain in remission.

Yes I just had a colposcopy about 3 weeks ago. It was just like a pap smear (kind of..) but if the doctor finds anything abnormal he or she will then do a biopsy of the abnormalities. I had to have the biopsy and I'm not going to lie to you, it hurt me. The doctors said it wouldn't really hurt, but it did. I had cramping for about a week after as well as discharge. Two of my biopsies came back with low grade pre-cancerous abnormalities of the changes of squamous cells and one came back high grade pre-cancerous abnormalities of the changes of squamous cells. I just had a LEEP procedure December 12. Good luck if you have to have this done!

A little uncomfortable but overall it wasn't that bad. They found what they were looking for and since then I've been in remission after 2 treatments, which was about 10 years ago.

i had mine 2 months ago. it was just a little bit uncomfortable but no real pain. mine was positive and they found some kind of dysplasia (sp?). so i have to go every 3 months and hopefully it clears.
