God, this warden has his head screwed on right!
People should be punished for crimes, not put treated like mini gods!
How else can we stop them re-commiting!

Well many times I watch the news on people behind bars for committing serious crimes and the criminals seem to complain about not having any good things like tv in their rooms, and what not, I like this guy's thinking. Hey these people committed a serious crime and that is why they are behind bars, they shouldn't have any privledges like televisions, weights, cause jail isn't supposed to be a home with the comforts of home, it's a jail for those criminals to do the time for what bad things they have done. And making them go out and pick up garbage on the highways, it's good for them to work instead of leisuring around in a yard. Jails are for criminals who needs to be rehabilitated. And yeah, the more those guys lift weights and get bigger, it scares me for when they get out of jail how much hurt they could possible do to someone. Many may not agree with my opinion, and that is okay, but when I watch the criminals complain cause they can't watch tv or they have to work, they should do something useful with the time they have and why not work, it's good for them to utilize their time and learn how to make a buck instead of stealing it or whatever else they have done illegially. I think this warden has the right idea. Kudos to him

Great idea and many similar suggestions have been made before, but our government are not the kind of people who listen to good ideas. Criminals also have too many "constitutional" rights in South Africa.
Also, why would the the government infuriate the criminals/inmates? - at the end of the day those are all ANC votes.

WAY TO GO!
We need him over here to take over from whomever is cocking up the system at the moment. This bloke is right: the prisoners are not there to have a good time; make them pay & pay properly.

Crap idea. Keeps the people in THAT jail in line,. When they egt out, they are simply worse and if the really do not want to go back to that jail, they just take their crime across the county line.

Shortsighted and stupid policy.

this should definately be done in south africa because some people are commiting crimes on purpose so that they could go to jailed and get food, water and shelter.
if our jails were a more rough then people would avoid going!!!!!

good idea. But this country has a very high unemployment rate, why would we have chain gangs when that work could help lessen the unemployment rate.
