A few days after 9/11 I finally contacted my son who was in the Army. I hadn't heard from him and I was terrified.
I said "Oh Michael, you picked the wrong time to be in the Army."
He replied "No Mom, I picked the right time. You know I would have signed up after all this happened anyway. "

Nevertheless, I was deeply depressed for about a month after that conversation. Not only for me but for all the Mother's of all the servicemen and women involved. So, so sad.

He finally got out and went on Inactive Status but was recalled last summer.

Michael is currently serving in Iraq right now.
He believes in the work we are doing in Afghanistan but not in Iraq. Says it's a mess and leadership, in general, is not good. Starting with Bush. Strangely, I think that conversation with my son after 9/11 was both my saddest and proudest moment.

When my Gramma died almost 7 years ago....she was the COOLEST woman , my best friend..I could tell her anything..even when I was a wild and crazy teenager, she knew I wasnt close to perfect yet she never judged me and loved me anyway...my boys (now 13 and 11) remember her pretty well, but my daughter (who's named after Gramma)was only 3 months old at the time and feels ripped off at having not known her:but we make sure we tell her all about Gramma..When it was time to leave the funeral home, my Mom and brother literally had to pull me away from the casket...I had never cried so uncontrollably before in my life. Eight months later Grampa died and it was my brother's turn to completely lose it...
