i am not sure. you'll have to wait until the book is released. those could be rumors. i don't think j.k. rowling even said anything about that. how can we possibly know when she hasn't actually revealed what happens in the final book?
if he die, that will totally suck.

Rumor has it the last word in the last book is "scar". I'm afraid the last line will be something like "No one will ever forget the boy or his scar."
Beyond that, here are some possibilities I can think of:
(1) Harry must sacrifice himself to destroy ole Valdy.
(2) Harry destroys Valdy but looses all of his own powers as well as the scar.
(3) Harry kills Valdy and survives unhurt. Then goes on to be a legendary wizard surpassing even Merlin.
(4) This was all a fantasy world Harry was playing at while stuck at his aunt and uncles house after his parents really did die in a car crash. Or similarly
(5) Harry wakes up as it was all a dream.
I hate those last two. Unlikely but possible.

I don't know where you heard that rumor, but I remember that JK Rowling was thinking of ending with book 7-- but then she added that maybe in the future, she will write a book about Harry Potter as an older man. =] Guess that might mean Harry Potter might not die...? =3

No one knows yet, except JK Rowling herself I guess. I'm a HP fan, I hope he's not going to die, but I'd accept the ending no matter Harry dies or not.

no, harry is not going to die, in my opinion, because that would mean that voldemort would win, and more books would have to be written. i think that that is just a rumor. you can see more debunked harry potter rumors at muggle.net

I think its pretty likely...I think we will find out that Harry's scar is a Horcrux and that in order to fully destroy Voldermort he is going to have to sacrafice himself.
