Look towards our governments - they banned smacking, they took discipline out of schools, they reduced the powers of the police - need I go on ??? Show me the deterrent and I'll show you a well behaved kid !!! There need to be boundaries for kids and punishments for breaking those boundaries - wheres the incentive to behave nowadays ?????

Yes there are exceptions to every rule ... but as a foreigner - these english kids are VERY scary and we're quite nervous about what friends our boys will be spending time with as they grow up!
Everywhere we go with our boys someone comments on how well-behaved they are - and they aren't perfect angels - but compared to the average english kid, they do seem to be!
So what's lacking here? I think discipline, and lots and lots of time and patience invested by the parents in the children.

you're generalizing i think. not all children are so badly behaved. you're probably talking about a specific area, and saying that area is the same as everywhere else which is not true. why are american children so badly behaved? that's generalizing. in the area that i live in, mostly that is true, but not all of the children in my area are badly behaved. it also depends on how the child(ren) were raised. if they were raised having everything that they want, then yes, they just might be badly behaved. but then again, depends on the parents, the child's personality, peers, and the area in which they live.

How much of England do you know well? I'm English, I live in London at the moment and I'm shocked at the behaviour of children sometimes, but more often by the behaviour of their parents. I think that a lot of people who have children have no idea of 'parenting' being something you have to put a lot of thought, effort and patience into.
However, in my home town in England, I don't see this kind of thing with any such frequency.

Don't think they are particularly. Spend a lot of time in France and kids there seem to behave pretty much the same as English kids.
My sister in law is Columbian and is shocked that my kids go to bed before 10, although my brother in law finds being surrounded by kids at all hours of day and night hugely irritating and thinks they should get to bed!
Can't generalise so widely, kids are kids.

I lived in Canterbury, UK for a year, and let me tell you, the French kids that came tearing through town on field trips were like a tornado of hellions. But then, I always avoided the bus stop when school was out to avoid the British teenagers cramming on the bus without regard to their elders.
And I teach in Los Angeles now, and let me tell you, American kids are quite bratty as well. Many of my students are first year immigrants from Mexico, and some of them are awful.
The point is, kids are kids. They will all be awful, especially if their parents aren't around. I don't believe one nation has a monopoly on misbehaviour.

you telling me there arent french, irish, german, bosnian or aistrian vicky pollards out there? i think theres been a slow change in the way kids have been raised over most of europe since 45, did anyone see the film with kirsten dunst in about mary antoinette? the kids in that were dressed as miniature adults and she only died 210 years or so ago. its only that the uk is top of the pile in teenage pregnancy and not acting as well as others in europe re education that we seem to have the worst kids on the continent but im sure that if you look close enough the rest of europes embarresed about their kids too

In my opinion, most of England has been going through a period of dumbing down in general, schools and society. No real discipline comes from teachers, parents or police force. England especially is a liberal, badly brought up and uneducated mess.
I am not saying all of them are badly behaved but too many are very selfish, rude and nasty and you have thw very few that are quiet, polite and kind.
All of these factors: education, parenting, values and attitudes have given the English a very well earnes reputation as being badly behaved.
Sorry, harsh but very true.

Since you don't travel or read the news.
You don't see what is going on around in planet of apes.

To be honest, I teach students from all over the EU in the UK and the balance of naughty/good is equal.
I have seen teenage lads screaming disgusting sexist things at girls as they walked past a school in Spain. In France (my friend works in a school in inner-city Paris) I believe they have security guards in class to keep the peace and in Holland, there are major worries with drugs, neo-nazis and violence.
It isn't just the UK.
