Both of us old timers in this house have motorcycles and that is how we get around town. If we go farther than that we use public transport. No we do not own a car.
Her children in the USA say it is imbarasing to their kids to show the pctures of old grand mother on a motorcycle.

We do live in SE Asia and it is the norm here. No mater how old, it is the two wheeler that gets us around most of the time. Even the taxies are two wheelers. Sure would not be safe in the States or Europe for us to do so.

Her kids are idiots. As long as you can handle the bike and not be one of the 'blue hair' drivers oblivious to others on the road, I say go for it. Heck, the kids are grown and gone, the grandkids are grown and gone, she's heading towards her own end-of-life. I'd hope I'd be in good enough physical shape to be riding when it's time to shed these mortal coils.

Well it could be embarrassing if grandma is in a thong or bikini in the photo. Here in Europe it is very common to run into old bikers. I just hope that when I am 70 my kids / grandkids / greatgrandkids can complain that I am still fit enought to ride motorcycle!!!!
Met a lady from Quebec that is 72 and picks up her granddaughter from school on a Harley. Says her granddaughter, and friends, think it's the coolest thing that happens all day.

Your kids should not be embarrassed that you get around just like eveyone else around you. As far as Grandparents on motorcycles, I may be on the young side to be one but my grandson loves to ride with me. I run my motorcycle until the snow is too much. I don't break out my pickup until I need 4 wheel drive, or have to move someting that won't fit in the wife's car. She should be proud her mom still has the ability, as well as the skill to ride. Good wishes from the States. Be safe, so you can be happy.

I think that's great!
I know a lady who turned 70 during a 5000 mile motorcycle trip a few years ago. She is still riding.
We use our motorcycles for nearly everything where we live and drive our mini truck only a couple of times a month. That's not the norm, here. :^) We just became grandparents and my wife commutes on her motorcycle every day.

I think most people would think it was really cool. I might be worried about her getting in an accident maybe, but definitely I think it would be awesome for her to have the fun and freedom of riding a motorcycle.

Bottom line...they'll be wishing they could see you on those cycles when you're gone. And I think it's awesome that you're still able to do so.

Now, if they are really worried, let them put their money where thier mouths are...buy you a reliable cat (convertible) pay your insurance, inspections, maintenance, etc. If they are will ing to do that, let them. How are they going to know you aren't still riding the bikes from across the pond.

She should keep doing what she's doing, and God bless her and her hogg.

My aunt never drove until she was 74 and her first vehicle was a Triumph 650 cc M/C and she drove that thing everywhere all through the UK and when she visited her son in Los Angeles she would use his Harley to get around..go for it Granny.

Well, nothing to be embarrased about. I don't think old people cannot do certain stuff because of their age. They like to do it, they can do it, let them do it. Don't care what others think, if they say it's so lame or so forth, just ignore them.
