we invaded based on the 1% doctrine, after 9-11 we couldnt risk the chance of terrorists getting a hold of iraqs WMDs (which russia, france, england, egypt and jordan said he had, and had used on the kurds and Iranians), so if there was a 1% chance he could transfer these weapons to terrorists groups with the same goals as the iraqis (killing americans), then we would have to mitigate that threat, because we saw what happened when administrations DID NOTHING in the face of terror threats. Bush erred on the side of caution. Instead of clinton erring on the side of hoping nothing bad happens.

Dubya had a family score to settle with Saddam Hussein. Bush Sr. screwed up and wasn't able to rid Iraq of Saddam, so Jr. felt he had to avenge his daddy's failure.

Dubya in his own words is a "wartime president" and if it weren't for his ability to instill paranoia in the American voter by finding enemies even where enemies don't exist, he would never have been elected to a second term. The "wartime president" needs to be at war to feel like he's doing something for his country.

Ah yes, those weapons of mass destruction....where did they go?? Of course, they never seemed to materialize, but guess what is in Iraq? Oil...and plenty of it!

US government scare tactics at work. People like Are We There Yet, jump on board every time believing we need to be protected by our government. BTW: Clinton tried on more than one occasion to send special forces after Bin Laden, and was denied by the Republican Congress. Kind of ironic isn't it?
