My husband and I would like some friends....sad but true!
We have a young family so socialising is hard for us, so pubs & clubs are out. We would love to meet another couple who live in our area Bolton, Lancs (our nearest friends are 100 miles away). Who are around the same age as us I'm 25, husband 31. Anyone any ideas???

We are looking for "normal" friends...who we can meet up with, have a drink and a meal with....not have sex with!!! lol
We both work full time and as I said have young children so meeting people in the outside world is difficult, due to lack of babysitters.

I know that most people your age have the same problem because of the same situation. As I'm sure you already know, having children and raising a family is a very big undertaking and leaves little time for meeting new friends and socializing. You could try to make friends at work or at church. Or you could attend a class at a community center. Also I would think you would have a better chance at meeting other potential friends at children's activities outside of school (IE: sports, dance recitals, etc)

Unless you mean wife-swapping. There's special clubs, websites and newspapers for that.

I no what you mean, I am 27 my hubbie 29 and we have moved to a new area where neither of us are from, meeting new people is hard when we have kids so can not get out much, It would be nice to meet another couple to have nights in having a drink and a laugh but I live on the wrong side of the pennines to you,
Its always the same though I make a friend whos married but our husbands will hate each other, so that never works out. Im sure you will find someone soon good luck.

Ps this has nothing to do with swinging, were talking about friendship

Why not open up a club for working parents with children? Rotate in couples homes. Have the children with you inform of sleep overs.
That will eliminate paying for a child care taker.
While having people as friends with same values and issues could help you making friends. Have potluck dinners, have movie evening. Same for the children. they could participate in the dinner events, and than go off with their friends for sleep over.
Another idea would be paritipating in churches that have young couple workshops or classes. Hope this helps. Have yourself a Merry Christmas! Greetings from Utah.

LOL... I know it sounds pathetic! But, I too, know exactly what you mean!!! Friends are hard to come by! Kids in school is a great way to meet other parents. Or pre-school or something like that. Community people are good too. Volunteer for something, like habitat for humanity, or a neighborhood enhancement project. You could always look in the paper for meetings to go to, or perhaps join a bowling league. New people are not going to come to your doorstep, you need to go out there and expose yourself to meet others. And, invite new people that you like into your home.

Dont forget, you might like her, and she might like you, but your hubbys dont really care for each other! And visa versa. Dont be afraid of this. You dont have to like them! Just be open to socializing with them. Maybe they will have a cook out, and you might meet some other people that they like. Find a reason to swap telephone numbers or email addresses. And, make the opportunity to invite them into your home.

The bottom line is get out there and expose yourself. It is similar to dating!! And, be patient! Look for opportunities, that arent cost inhibitive. The newspaper is a great way!! Good Luck!!!

I'm not familliar with your area, but church is always a great place to meet people. You just have to find one in your area with some younger people. If pubs and clubs are out, then thats all I can think of. Good luck!

You need some kind of family friendly club or group. It might start with you by going to something like La Leche League (for nursing moms) or MOPS (mothers of pre-schoolers) and finding people in similar situations. Also try your kids friends families and a church with families of similar ages.

Anything that you to have in common can help for the first part. If you both like tennis then join a tennis club. That was just an example. Once you join you will be sure to find poeple that have the same intrest as you. But dont try to hard to please.

any cultural or sports interests? field hockey? hiking? model planes? archery?swimming?historical society? cycle touring?

How about rotary club? junior chamber of commerce? british council? toastmasters? church? amnesty international? greenpeace? red cross? is there a notice board at your local library?

maybe begin with an internet search of locals, using ICQ, yahoo, or msn? converse, then take it from there.

how about both doing a course, like an evening course and meet other students. i would suggest a massage course or perhaps a foreign language? I did a massage course once, it was fantastic!

try going to a church, you can meet nice couples there , parks, at your childrens school also. Just remember that you should be selective, try to see what is it that your husband and you are looking for in a friendship, how commited are you going to be to this friendship, ect...Go to places that fit your likes and interests, so you will find the right people..

Join a local club for something you are interested in. Like if you like to go bowling or dancing or something, join a local club. Are there any people at work who are about your age, why not ask them where they go?
