You would know about it if you did. When you switch on your PC a Norton bubble comes up telling you the state of play with your PC. If it is a new PC then usually you get a Norton or similar protection CD included and it will cover you for a year once installed. You have to install it yourself. Just run a search on your PC to see what it finds but it sounds like you don't have any internet protection which is bad.

You don't really want to connect to the web without security software. If you have Windows XP with service pack 2 then your Windows firewall should be on. As for the other security software you either buy a pc with it installed for you, or you buy it and install it.
As a couple of other people have said it'll turn up in the list of programs in oyur start menu, or there'll be an icon on the desktop or taskbar, or go to start - control panel - add & remove programs and it'll be listed there.
Theres no need to panic or pay for software. You can get all the security software you need free, if you're a home user. Theres a list on my blog - if you click my picture, then on the next page click the link to my 360, you'll find it in my blog.
I'd suggest a firewall, an anti virus, at least one anti spyware, Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spywareblaster.

Did you install it from a CD, or download and install it? Did it come with a new PC? Unless you can answer these, no one but you will know whether Norton is installed or not. You can check by clicking on Start and Programs. It will show you all the programs installed on your computer.

If it does go ahead and uninstall it and get a better one.
AVG and AVAST are 2 very good anti-virus programs that work great and they are free! They don't have a lot of extra stuff like Norton and McAfee does.
Give them a try and you will be glad you did.
I will give you the link to a site that has anti-virus, malware, adware and spam tools to help your system run smooth.
