Without the usual rantings about politicians, as they are all the same snidey little snot-weasels regardless (except Boris Johnson, whom I find amusing to observe), what HAS gone wrong with society here now?

Or is it that it's as bad as it's always been, but we notice it more because of the media hype surrounding hoodies and asbos and various vicious assaults?

Your (sensible & mature) thoughts please. And no, this isn't an invitation to rant on about immigrants, religous faiths or anything like that.

We have lost out identities, we are no longer British. Basically.

The whole problem is that people don't trust each other anymore and as such the system of social interaction and responsibility is breaking down.
People are afraid and blame minorities who then become isolated and introvertive. Because of this no social groups can interact with each other without breaking taboos.
If people trusted each other more then the would be nicer to each other, people could turn to strangers for help and society would knit together as one big community.
If an immigrant moves into your street then don't put a t*rd through their letter box and tell them to "f*ck off home", put a nice welcome card through their letter box and tell them they have made a friend for life.
If a Muslim kid is graffiting the town hall don't begin to hate Muslims - tell the Imam at the local Mosque who will then tell his parents who will put him back on the right track.
If everyone in Britain joined together then we really would be GREAT Britain again. We could all unite as friends and really be the UNITED Kingdom.
I honestly believe we are all good people and all we need is more trust and then we can begin to understand each other and work together.

It's nothing to do with religion - it's to do with lazy people who think their entitled to the earth because they paid one or two national insurance contributions. Many of the immigrant workers who come here, work and pay taxes and send money home to mum and dad - and as long as they pay their taxes that's fine by me.

But so many people are living on handouts from the dole (Free housing, income support) that there isn't an incentive to go out and do a hard days work. That's why the UK has gone to the dogs.

I think you're right, I think things are pretty much the same as always but because of the media and the way they tend to over exaggerate things we then notice it more.

People have always worn hoods, since there's been travel there's been migration and politicians will always be on the path of damage limitation, but now the media have more influence and there is so much hype about it.

Good question.

Whe I was a Kid - growing up in a Ghetto in Glasgow's East End - in the 70's & 80's ... I wouldnt dream of giving cheek to - My parents, Grandparents - elders ... and especially not to the Police .. because I would have got a Clip round the ear...or the Belt from my Dad.. Nowadays the cheek I get from my Kids is unbelievable - they know they will get shouted at - end of story.. Youngsters are unafraid of the Police - as they know they are powerless to deal with them...
Everyone is Money Daft... we want it and we want lots of it by the easiest means possible.. we watch too much TV - showing Music Videos Games Shows Celeb making shows..and see Celebs in fancy cars, clothes dripping in Gold and we want it too..
We also see Judges handing out leanient sentences - to Murderers & Criminals - and some may think.. mmm!! a couple of years for robbing this bank...then its off to the Beach to retire..No wonder the place is in a state..

"There is nothing new under the sun. And what people
think is new, was around in the days of old."
Evil by it's nature, wants to be the center of attention.
So it blows itself up out of proportion. Making us think
there is nothing but evil. And it's so BIG, you can't do
anything about it!
But evil is not that big.
They say 500 people were killed with hand guns in New York City last year. And any loss of life is tragic. But
there are 8,000,000 people in New York City!
Get my drift?
Even in war-torn countries. The majority of people are
just trying to get by, and they aren't bothering anyone.

The dissolving of the class system, where everyone knew their place and were happy with their lot in life and the simple pleasures of life (no I'm not upper class). The cack programmes about celebrity on the telly, the dumbing down of telly. With much choice comes much comparing and envy and dissatisfaction.

first of all i blame the governament that allows all sorts of scum to roam our streets. if you murder someone you get one year of jail for fraud you get life sentences, convicted and listed peadofiles are freed and put to work in our schools, because there's "no space" in prison, today's kids are growing up to be absolute slobs with no ambitions or motivation for a future, aiming to get pregnant at 12 so that they will get benefits and council flats, and never need to actually work, or achieve something . i talk of the majority, i know that not everyone is like this, but the majority is. there's too many ppl on the dole who are perfectly capable of working for a living, or at least do something worthwhile.
this is what's wrong with the UK.
the governament should tackle these problems, and not be as loose as it is..

f**k fighting wars that are not our problem...solve UK's problem's first!
