Long story short, I know where I can get a young Lion cub and am very interested given discipline problems I have been having with my fiance. Can I get nailed for having a pet like this?

Has anyone domesticated a Lion? If so, in a cage or did it roam free.

Please let me know ASAP because my window of opportunity is small.

Thanks, Pete.

You'd likely have to check your local laws and regulations.

Regardless of whether it is legal or not, I woud re-think it. Do you have a place (LARGE enclosure) where you can keep it? Can you ensure it will not get loose? Do you know anything regarding the care of such an animal? Can you afford the meat that it needs to be fed? Do you realize that there is always the risk of it killing you whether you raise it from a cub or not?

Lion's are not domesticated, you are risking a lot by trying to have one as a pet.

Attempting to domesticate an instinctively wild animal is something that Wildlife preservers are very much against and if you are found to be housing one, most likely it would be taken from you.

Neighbors would be the first to protest particularly if you live within a family community.

Take Penn and Teller...they have raised and worked with wildlife for years...all it takes is one incident to create an incredibly dangerous situation. The Lion cub wouldn't be at fault he would simply be defending his territory and preserving his life as he would see it...however, others perceiving danger would not be as likely to agree.

Save yourself the trouble and allow the cub to be taken in by a wildlife sanctuary where he can grow up as he should. Besides, this "discipline problem with your fiance" issue indicates the cub would not be as much a pet as it would be a defense against someone. Not a good idea for any involved.

Not only is it illegal but it is cruel. A lion is not a big domesticated cat. That is an animal that can seriously hurt you or kill you or someone else as it grows up. You can incur enormous fines and face even jail time. Do this poor animal a favor and call your local authorities on this idoit selling this cub.

Actually, it IS legal is some states; however, the USDA and the state conservation departments have VERY strict laws governing the treatment, housing, and reason for keeping such an animal. If it is legal in your state, you would be subject to numberous, periodic inspections. You could also face large penalties and fines for breaking even the smallest of the federal and/or state regulations.

There are a lot of rumors going around saying yes and saying no. Their considered roumors for a reason... because no one knows wether they are true or not. Really the only way to find out is be paitent and wait until their reps comment. Why would a tour be called of for an engagement or pregnancy? Both wouldn't happen for a while.

ILLEGAL ILLEGAL ILLEGAL. You shouldnt do this. Lions are WILD animals, and unless you are a specialist and have a sanctuary and a license you can NOT hold wild animals.

There is no such thing as a domesticated lion, they are wild and always will be. You obviously need to do some reading....you cant have these big cats as a pet.

The are wild cat sanctuaries because of people like you. If you want to see what it is like to own a wild cat, visit a sanctuary and find out what is involved. Sponsor one of these large cats and see what the expenses are. There is more to it than trying to domesticate a large, wild cat and wondering if it should be cages or roam free! OH! Yes, it's illegal.
