I assume you mean in relation to popular music? and with regard to music in general rather than individual fans?
I would say that the beatles were one of the most important acts in 20th century music. Views will always differ but most people would include in their top 10 acts people like Elvis and Bob Dylan alongside the Beatles.
I think the Beatles may edge the others out for the top spot for two reasons. One is the enormous popularity they enjoyed. The world was ready for four loveable mop-tops, and they were not slow in getting their music and personalities exposed in every country in the world.
The second reason is that they had the pure good fortune to have a four piece pop group which just happened to contain not one but two of the greatest songwriters of the century. You can add to this a drummer whose ego never got in the way of the music and a guitarist who become not only highly individual in his playing, but also turned into another great songwriter.
So if you had to create a chart, I would put the Beatles at number 1...just.

All four brought facets to the group that made their success possible. Consider the fact that they really exploded after Ringo Starr came on board even though most folks would put him last in importance (the studio even replaced him for the first demo). If you had to rank them you'd have to put John and Paul up front because of their writing, followed by George because of his, followed by Ringo. The best work to come out of ex Beatles was John and George.

It is debatable who was most important out of John and Paul but they were the two most important - then George, who wrote quite a few of the Beatles' classic songs (but not as much as the other two), then Ringo

Well, that would be hard to distinguish. I guess I would always put John first, because he was such a humanitarian and talked about peace and love all the time. Then Paul, because he has accomplished so much, and done so much for others! Then, George, cause he died so young and had lots of positives, too! And then Ringo, cause I know he is a good guy too!

Paul for his writing singing and arranging,John for his writing and vocals especially the early stuff,George and Ringo are tied because,George could write but Ringo's drumming was so fantastic especially from Rubber Soul on.
Mc Cartney was the only one who was worth a damn after they broke up.This was a once in a lifetime compilation ,fate,God,whatever put them together and theyy can never be equaled.Thank God Paul could take John's songs and arrange them better than John could,he made good songs ,great.

No but I can tell you that I think Paul McCartney is a jumped up pompous old has been who isn't worth the paper he's written on.
He thinks he's so great, but he isn't.
The Beatles? What a load of crap. They were only musicians not anything important. People need to get a grip.

I usually base a band on lead singer, lead guitar, other guitars and then drums.
But you can't always list band members like I do because alot of bands have various lead singers - Barenaked Ladies for one.
