Some people clearly prefer to spread and add to prejudices, without thinking things through. Why is that? Do they feel superior? Are they plain stupid? W

Some people feed off hatred and ridicule of others. Remember the bullies at school? Well these bullies have grown up, but not really, if you catch my drift. Some people just are ignorant to other cultures and stereotype them based off what the see on television. Most small towns are pretty segregated and i'm thinking people in small towns just don't know any better. There was a time when I went up north with a group of friends and I was the only black person. We had to stay at someone's parent's house and when they saw me, it was apparent they were in shock to have a live black person in their kitchen. I remember we were going to go to a bar but the parent's told them we shouldn't because of me - they said the farm boys would bother us. I think that was the first time i'd really experienced something like that coming from Detroit. On the bright side, by the end of the trip, after they had warmed up to me and saw I wasn't a criminal ghetto hoochie, they were really nice people. The father even played on my guitar and gave me his pick and the grandma let me help her cook which I thought was touching.

I think people just need to somehow forget everything they've heard and take each person for what they are - an individual. When we start to do this, we can begin to see that the we are all good and bad, equally.

We need to start this soon because the world is becoming darkened by hate more and more every day. We must change for our children's sake.

Plain stoopid, easily influenced and weak minded.

That, combined with insecurity about themselves and no self-confidence.

Wouldn't the world be a dull place if everyone was a white christian or a black muslim , or the other way round of course! Some diversity is socially important, and on an individual level, it allows one to find out about the world outside. Immigration is again socially & economically important, when done properly, bringing in much needed skills into a country (ie UK) where more and more of the "native" population are really turning into the worst characatures of the archtypal fat british dole-scrounger, who moan about immigrants "nicking all our jobs" when they've never done a days hard work in their lives, nor are they likely to.

Rant over, sorry.

like bush?

I think he thinks that his is better.

In the coming generations our sociology will improve, hopefully our xenophobic atitudes will disappear and we will find a way to give each other the space and respect that we all need.

That said, some cultures need bashing. Take turkey for example: ripping clitorises out of your women or being over posessive, jealous of education, business and employment: all that is clearly inferior policy, short minded, uneducated and awfully prejudiced.
All that should be attacked with passion and we also have such issues too, no one will deny that there is a glass ceiling. We say the phrase as if there's nothing that can be done about it but there can only be a glass ceiling if people make the decisions that propagate this unfairity. That too needs to be attacked and eradicated.

Women working in some parts of africa take it as part of the job description to be groped up and otherwise assaulted by colleagues, shocking as it sounds it's rarely reported though widely experienced oveshadowed as it is by the lack of job opportunities, famine, muders, theft and other safety issues in the community, poverty, aids and other health issues and corruption. But it does happen and it shouldn't.

Many of us who do criticise other cultures don't get a kick out of it (although I'd love to give a kick to some people regarding their views on this issue...) many of us are just concerned or not well informed. education is the solution to most of this. once we have that we'll be almost home and dry because of it's knock on effect to the economy and general knowledge.

Because they believe the world belongs to them and them alone. And they think their way is the only way.

Peoples attitudes are getting quite scary - we are headed towards something awful for our futures if people dont learn tolerance.

Its just ignorance at the end of the day. Learning about other cultures is important. We should all do our bit.
