I don't know about other European countries for certain, but Austria and Germany have such a law. They also prohibit the public display of swastikas and other Nazi emblems.

On the one hand it curtails freedom of expression, but on the other hand it prevents the Neo-nazis from propagating their lies unhindered. So I'm in two minds about it, in the effect I think it does more harm than good by preventing a discussion, but most Germans and Austrians would actually not agree.

A few countries, notably France, Austria and Germany, have such a law making it a criminal offense to deny the factual existence of the Holocaust.

This law has apparently withstood attack under the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. It exists in those countries due to the presence there of a strong residual and surviving Nazi element. It would not be necessary, and indeed would be constitutionally impossible, in the USA.

"Press freedom" as understood in the USA differs from its European counterpart: notably in matters of defamation law. Moreover the inability of (for example) the UK to take action against Islamist fomenters of hate has made that country a haven for terrorists and recruiters of terrorists. You really need to consider the issue raised in your question in the context of each country's internal situation.

Yes, it is true. And it is a terrible law, an insidious attack upon basic freedoms that is reminiscent of the "thought crimes" in Orwell's "1984".

Any person who supports freedom and liberty should be appalled that any allegedly democratic government of a free people would curtail their speech and make it a crime to hold and espouse certain beliefs, however heinous those beliefs may be.

They also have laws preventing criticism of Islam.

It is sad to see Europe again succombing to the inherent tyranny of socialism.

yes it is illegal in several country's including Germany, what makes it so terrible is the fact that there are so many stories about the holocaust that is impossible to have happened , that if it were real why so many different story's??? and there were so may lies told that I don't see how any one could really believe it
we are lucky that they haven't passed a law here the same way since there are at least 60%Jews in our congress and senate
this law is vigorously enforced in Germany, as their court system is also controlled by the Jew's

Anti semitism is growing throughout europe and violence aimed at Jews is higher than at any time except the period running up to
World War II.

I doubt that any such laws, if they exist, are being very rigorously enforced.
