Now that we have diversity inclusion, shouldn't that include fat people? Does anyone realize that there are various reasons why people are overweight and they don't all include laziness.
There is metabolic disorder, medicine that causes weight gain, extra weight after having a baby, thyroid problems, eating disorders which are emotional at the root and probably exacerbated by people who demonstrate hatred for people who aren't so called perfect 10's. There is a major reason why a lot of women are fat - sexual molestation. Layers of fat are protection and a guarantee that we will not be attractive to our molester(s). A lot of us feel that everyone is our molester because of the trust issue.
It's really too bad. I would never form a group that is totally devoid of one particular 'type' of person, such as fat, skinny, bald, long hair, short hair, bad dresser, ugly or whatever. People are emotional beings and the constant ignorance in the face make it real hard to give a damn.

For those who think fat people have 'always' been discriminated against, check history. Rubenesque women were all just about like me - not huge but a little rounder and more padded. Those women were considered beautiful and a lot of times girth in a woman was a sign of wealth.
My 'issues' are with people who are hateful enough to exclude people period. Is that really my issue? I think it the issues of the ones being hateful.

The hate that is filling this world on a daily basis is worrying, however, I know that there are more good people than bad, regardless of what the media shows us. It is wrong to discriminate based on weight, among others. The only people I discriminate against are those that deserve it - criminals, liars, cheats, etc.

All you can do is to be accountable for your own actions and continue to live in the light of love and hope. It's is too tiring to try to change everyone because so many people actually feed off their hatred. It's saddening.

But you are that hope that inspires people like me to believe that there is still good in the world. You will lead by example.

It's not new. Physicality has always played a part in success and in people's concepts of beauty, etc. Left-handers face this too as do many other groups.

I do not buy the argument that the layers of fat are a protection or even a percieved one against an attacker. No legitimate exisitng studies that I am aware of indicate any such thing and many overwieght women have been victims too.

I will admit, that for most people it is easier to put a french fry in your mouth than a green veggie, myself included. As you state metabolic disorders play a part in many cases. But, High Fructose Corn Syrup an Trans-fats, etc are what has put the weight on most of us in the latter half of the last century and continuing still. That combined with the fact that not many of us do manual labor anymore.

As for prejudice, I agree that my overweight friends face that more than those of us who maintain a healthier weight.

it should not be that way but it is.

Prejudice against those who are overweight isn't new. It has been around for a long, long time. You are right about all the reasons behind the weight issues; however, it is very important that those with weight issues find a way to get the help they need to become healthy again - emotionally and phsycally. In the meantime, the rest of the world needs to learn compassion and understanding. "Fat" does NOT equal "lazy slob." Funny how anorexics and bulimics get attention and sympathy; those who are overweight just have an opposite method of dealing.

I agree that weight problems are generally emotional, particularly once the weight has gone on, it's then a vicious circle of feeling depressed about your weight and comfort-eating. I used to be very overweight but somehow found the strength to tackle the problem, lost 5 stone and am now at my target weight. I'm certainly not prejudiced and I don't know very many people who are. However, I don't buy the 'fat and happy' line that a lot of overweight use. Being fat and genuinely happy is an exception, not the norm and I'd like to see something done to help them, to improve their own quality of life.

For those people who say fat people have always been discriminated against, I'd say check your information... fat used to be considered attractive. And I agree with the asker on the fact that people are a lot of the time just fat because they have certain disorders or medical conditions. It's not something everybody can help.

New? agreed- I'd like to see the rock... Most prejudices are against others with some obvious "fault" or difference. Often "prejudice" is just another word for "fear of the unknown"...

Although I like to think I'm a totally fair person, there are those who are "different" that I don't like to be around. I try to be kind, respectful when I am around those people.
Also, there is one racial/demographic group I have a VERY difficult time with- personal experience has taught me that they are rarely honest, are not to be trusted unless the contract is tattoo'd on their back side, they're lazy, etc. In my mind, this group (a small portion of their race) has proven themselves worthy of all the negative labels they've been given over the years.

BTW-- one of my very best friends is "heavy"... as is/was my (most wonderful) mother (she's lost a lot of weight lately), and my (kind, loving, supportive...) husband (I fear for his health).

Regarding fat... My theory is that "fat" is a symptom of another issue- hormones, meds, lifestyle, emotional history, etc. Solve the underlying issue, and the extra weight should solve itself, or at least start to solve itself.

There is a prejudice against everything in this world. Trust me whatever 1 person likes someone else doesn't like. If you feel you're obese and you're tired of people making fun of you, then do something about it. Plus it's not healthy. A lot of people resort to food because it comforting. I'm just the opposite. I only eat when I'm hungry. Most days I eat only 1 meal a day. I don't think there is any excuse for being obese I don't care what you went through. But everyone is different and I'm not sitting in judgment of it. I'm speaking solely for myself. I'm not perfect! I'd rather have a Vodka and Cranberry then to eat. Now alcohol isn't any good for you either. But it works for me! Girlfriend, don't put yourself or anyone else down. It's what's inside your heart that matters. You'll lose the pounds when you're ready. In the meantime think beautiful. Hell I'm gorgeous and I don't have a problem with telling anyone! Sounds vane! But I don't care! LOL!

Well...... that is style of a double-edged query. I've visible a pair "hidden digital camera experiences" and I've visible a few peers of mine which might be obese. I consider humans have much less of a "prejudice" than they do a reaction to an angle. As you mentioned, you get dressed adorable, and from the sound of it, you have got acquired a by and large well angle. A confident outlook and a well angle say MUCH extra for a man or woman and "how well they seem" than their weight does. I've visible a cheery, outgoing fats girl that used to be attracting extra humans than a quite depressed skinny man or woman sitting five toes away. It has extra to do with their angle (that's generally effected through their outlook) and persona than their weight. With that mentioned, I consider extra humans who're obese consider like humans deal with them like crap for the reason that they do not have an overly well view of themselves..... if they do not like themselves, how can different humans that do not recognise them like them? I could say approximately 60% of the obese humans that I recognise good ample wouldn't have an overly well outlook, and that suggests after they cross out... then they consider extra down for the reason that no one is paying concentration to them whilst their pal is getting concentration.... then they give up short of to head out as on the whole for the reason that they anticipate they will be rejected. It's a as an alternative viscious cycle. Of path, I've visible the equal factor for a couple of skinny humans as good. Ultimately, it takes an have an effect on of a few style (emotional, intellectual, or bodily) to get anybody like that to difference their temper. Some obese humans that get an have an effect on do confident matters for his or her lifestyles, which emerge as serving to them drop a few pounds, which is helping them consider larger approximately themselves....... you get the factor

Actually with the increase of fat people in the US there is less prejudice against them these days. People used to look down on them a lot more. I have never heard your cause for being fat before -- I hope you are not right about that being a major cause. I hope that you are able to get help with your issues.

I wished our society would change..
