Not the Government but people and Agencies who run the Government.But it is a necessary evil because roughly 10% of the World trade is Illicit Drugs If they don't do it the Money will go into Non American Hands like Osama bin Laden and Latin and Pakistani Generals.Effectively all the money will be controlled by those people in a very short period[10 Years].British and French did the same thing and now it is American turn.But this policy has created a lot of chaos and wars and made some people very rich and powerful who will eventually hurt the American Democracy which ordinary people failed to understand.Very good Question indeed.

The CIA was involved in Vietnam, under Bush Sr. Again we were involved during Iran Contra under Reagan and Bush Sr. Currently, Afghanistan's poppy/heroin production is flooding the world market, this time under Bush Jr. You might think that our Government is involved in the Drug Business, or could it just be the House of Bush?

The DEA is involved in trying to catch drug shipments to the US.
The secret services have at different times been alllied to groups and causes that have used drug money to finance their operations.
The war against Russians in Afganistan. Heroin
The Contra fight in Nicaragua. Cocaine.

Yes, they have this nefarious group called the FDA, they are into all the big drug dealers like Bayer and such. They have trained hit squads that use the name DEA, so watch your back, they are probably tracing your IP addy right now.

yes, the U.S has been very active in the drug trade since the Reagan administration, and the CIA is still heavily involved in it

Yes of course they are....have been for years. The CIA is the entity that discovered how to make crack cocaine and distribute it as well as LSD. Their latest handiwork is Crystal Meth. Watch now...They will be increasing the flow of Herion and Marijuana so it will be easier for the government to take away the rest of our constitutional rights.

yes. their agencies have stashes they use in drug stings and entrapment. the undercover dea almost always keep some of the money or drugs for themselves, and the US govt keeeps money made from their drug sales and purchases during stings

I believe there is room for abuse by people in power. And they could make alot of money and most people tend to be greedy. Whether or not it's happening, don't know.
