OMG you are right, how frustrating.
I've found a Chaunce Hayden, all the Barrymore clan (brothers, sisters, nieces etc) but no Chaunce Barrymore!
Even a reference to Chaunce Hayden with Drew Barrymore, odd huh.
My only suggestion is to email MGM direct and see if anyone could help. It may rouse someones curiosity; the jacket being so old.

I wish I knew, but one guess I could make would be that it might have been an affectation, an assumed name of someone else that might have been known only among a small circle of people. Perhaps contacting MGM would be the best thing to do, since, as you say, finding information on the web about it is impossible.

Another tack might be to look in literary sources or to re-do your searches with the surname "Blythe," which was the actual birth surname of the Barrymore clan. There is a Mr. and Mrs. Barrymore (not sure of the first names) in Conan Doyle's "Hound of the Baskervilles" as well. You're right; it is a poser! Best of luck!
