Are you talking about a college course? At my university this was a pre-requisite for Journalism and Advertising students. It deals with all forms of media (television, newpaper, internet, etc.). Then you probably will discuss practices, ethics, and so on. I recall in my class there was also some writing involved.

Mass Communication is how we can instantly reach each other no matter where we are on the planet. Cell phones, TV, Internet, radio, etc, all are part of a global network devoted solely to moving information from place to place. The Media, which is TV, radio, Internet news/resources, newspapers, etc, are the ones that basically decide what information we see, and when we can see it. Information is power, and those who control the flow of the information are the most powerful. Think of it: We can now be in instant contact and converse in real-time with anyone in the world anytime we want! What would the world be like if, say, Jesus Christ had access to this kind of Mass Communication when he was preaching and teaching? (This question was asked in the play "Jesus Christ, Superstar")
