If you're going specifically to Gulf Shores, I'd call ahead to make sure that the bulk of the businesses are up and running. If New Orleans is on your itinerary, you'll be fine. All of the major tourist spots are open and received minimal damage from Katrina. She did most of her damage in the poor sections of the city that were in the lowest areas. If Alabama and Florida are in your plans, you should be okay, although there are still repairs going on in Alabama and on the coast there and in western Florida.

Parts of it still are, I think Mississippi is the worst. But as far as I know New Orleans is pretty well back to normal, more or less, (as normal as NO can be ;). Florida I know for sure is fine. There may be a couple of places there that haven't totally cleaned up but dont worry about going there, its a great place! have fun!
