Hi, for all that do not know, the IB is a diploma programme designed for High School students. To complete the diploma you are required to take a "art". I chose IB Music, a class which is about music theory and history.

One component of the class is the MI, which stands for Musical Investigation. For that you have to take 2 different genres of music and compare & contrast them. The genres have to represent a culture.

I want to do something that has to do with chords and modern day Britpop and relate it to Hindustani music. I am open to other suggestions, but my idea is due in 5 days so I need to get it decided so I can do some reasearch.

Any suggestions? Thank you for reading.

You can start of by comparing how the different notes are described..

eg: In Hindustani classical the eight note scale is read as Sa,ri,ga,ma,pa,da,ni,Sa.

But in the Blues pentatonic scale or in western music in general the scale is represented with the formula

T T ST T T T ST where T is tone and ST is semi-tone.

So D major would be

D E F# G A B C# D. And Blues has a lot of the dominant seventh note in it, which is the 5th note.

While Rock and metal have an emphasis on the Root and the fifth notes which form the power chord.
