I agree that if the question describes any serious ailment, the questioner is either an idiot, or is hoping that someone will tell him some miraculous home cure for death. That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with asking if a small problem is really cause to go to the vet- sneezing, watery eyes, one occurrance of vomiting, even dirty ears, not all pet owners know first hand what an ear infection or ear mites looks like, you shouldn't patronize them for wondering. Also, it's important to read the question- some people say they're taking him to a vet when it opens ASAP, but they want advice on keep the animal comfortable in the interim. Not all areas have an emergency vet, and it can be hard to locate one at 3am in the morning sometimes.
But again, if it's something serious, people really should be at least trying to find that emergency vet instead of asking whether a bleeding dog is a serious problem or not, or if there's a home remedy for parvo. Those people shouldn't even be allowed to own pets...

Generally, a lack of applied common sense, or ill-preparedness.
Most people know when it's appropriate to take their animals to the vet. In many cases, the symptoms are the same as that of humans. I can't realistically think that anyone would pee blood for over a week before going to the doctor, and yet, they seem to be ok with letting their cat/dog do that.
A lot of pet owners also are not financially responsible. They don't realize that the cost of a pet -- ANY pet -- is not just food. It's vet care, enrichment devices and items, and preventative care as well. Pets are expensive, but people give them away for "free" so people think they can afford them.

Going to the vet costs money. They may want to make sure it isn't something there is a home remedy for. Now obviously if it's been hit by a car or has pneumonia or something, then sure, don't waste your time here. But there are things you can do to get your pet through minor things without spending a hundred bucks or more at the vet when it wasn't necessary. A lot of times someone will know something you don't. I just wish people wouldn't answer such questions unless they have knowledge about the animal in question. It's all the the stupid, half-@ss answers that get me upset.

Yes, it can be frustrating. Especially when people make it clear that they don't intend to take them to the vet at all. In this case, there's the saying "if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet."
However, some people may be asking questions to gain some insight before actually going to a vet. Sometimes it helps if someone can share information or personal experience. Personally, I will ask questions if I'm concerned about my pet, as well as take them to the vet. (Provided it's not an emergency. In that case, i'm off to the vet first.) That way I also know what to expect, what questions I should ask when I see the vet, & what information I should provide to help diagnose the problem.

Some people make vets appointments, and before they can take their pet there they ask people here if they know what it can be. I think a lot of people like to know what they are going to be up against. Its not like they are all irresponsible and are wanting a diagnosis here.
There are others that are that dumb though and admit to it in their questions... but you will come across a lot of people that have already made their vet appts, and just want some more information.

i've got under no circumstances seen paper towels used in this type previously. i might ask your self a pair of vet that makes use of them perhaps the female in simple terms spoke of as what ever he used "paper towels". i could be very demanding approximately any cut back on the legs, on the fringe of the bone. best hardship is a bone an infection. Penicillin photos are very painful too so i might hardship approximately that to boot. If there is not any swelling then anti-inflamatories are no longer inevitably warranted. I had a vet come out as quickly as that had to shove a catheter into my horses penis. I strongly objected because of the fact the "catheter" he had to apply replaced into the size of platic tubing purely slightly below a million/2 inch diameter. Yikes! I advised him to grant him a shot of Lasix and if that did no longer artwork i might call him back. The Lasix worked and my horse replaced into saved from an incredibly painful technique.

Asking for advice can be much smarter than running to the vet over every little thing. Try calling a vet for any reason and see if they turn you down if you want to bring the pet in...for any reason! No way! They will get you for a visit and tests if your dog crossed his eyes or your bird flew in a circle for a minute.
Of course, if a pet is deathly ill, then asking instead of any medical care is lame. But even human kid questions are asked in case paying to drag your child to the doc over every little thing is not necessary.
New pet owners especially, may not know certain behaviour signs etc.

I've asked myself the same question over and over again. It's like... on parenting sites people asking... "Am i pregant?" well go to the store and buy a pregnancy test! How the heck should I know if YOU'RE pregnant? Geesh! Some people are just so agravating! It's the stupid questions like how do I insert a tampon into a cat that make my blood boil. Stop using up space and grow a brain.

Probably because they do not comprehend the meaning of being a responsible pet owner. Pets are like having children, they depend on us for food, shelter and love. Unlike children, they cannot express in words what is wrong with them. Many pet owners are not financially prepared to deal with that responsibility, and in my opinion, if you are not you should not have pets!!
