My cats absolutely love catnip. How do I grow the stuff in my garden? I live in South Africa on the East Coast and we have a sub-tropical climate. Good rainfall all year round except dry in winter.

you dont have to do anything special. catnip is like a weed, it will thrive with little or no care.

Catnip is relatively easy to grow. It can be used in tea as help for anxiety, restlessness. It can be smoked by people but it is only a Mild sedative. It is not related to cannabis in anyway shape or form. Mostly it is grown for and by someone that has cats as they love the stuff. It is easy to grow and cheaper that way if you have a cat that really likes it. you can get catnip seeds in most big pet stores, petsmart, petco etc. If you do grow it outside though whether you have a cat or not, they will come. it's an attractant to them. I didn't see the other questions, but if it sounds as though it was about growing pot, it probably was as Catnip is no problem to grow at all.

I have seen stuff on the internet that says they like sun to partial shade. Full sun would probably be the best though. It also said they like moist soil. Just look up how to grow catnip on google or yahoo, and you should be able to get some sites that will give you tips.

If you are looking to get plants you might try ebay or other places on the net or try a local nursery or plant store to see if they have any.

Ask around the neighborhood, friends and relatives... Someone will have it in their yard and will be willing to give you a bushel of sets to start your patch with.

If you know what it looks like you should be able to find it in a park too.

Order it from Petsmart or Pet co. They'll send you a plant you can transfer to your garden, or the seeds to start from scratch.

You can buy the seeds online, grow them in a pot in the house, up on a windowsill.
