Plus, if they give you a blank look thinking you are a weirdo or something, how would that make you feel?

I wave and smile all the time to a neighbor and he looks at me like I'm a freak. So now, I wave really wildly and grin like an insane person whenever I see him. I practically hang myself out of the car window.

Point is, it's more about them, not me. I don't get offended, I just think they are scrooges.

I would think that I have done a big mistake and I might be traumatized by this experience that I might nor dare to smile at strangers anymore. I do not want to experience that though.

it used to bug me because how hard is it to be polite? but then i realized that sometimes people don't notice, sometimes they are thinking of something else, and sometimes they just don't smile (and sometimes i have failed to return a smile as well). i realized that i was taking it personally and that was stupid. i noticed since i stopped worrying about it, i actually smile more and get more in return. and if someone doesn't smile back, that's fine.

I don't get offended owver simple things like that and if they maybe thinking that I'm weird or whatever well then, that's their problem. I honestly don't have a problem with what others think of me in that way.

I would not be dissapointed so much as saddened. Common courtesy would dictate that you smile back when someone smiles at you. It costs you nothing and can mean everything to someone else.

No, to the first question because they might not know who you are smiling at. yes, to the second, because that is rudeness to the highest degree.

Gosh! I used to work retail and you can never guess the number of customers who do that.
I just ignore them.

That happens all the time. I try to ignore it and assume I will not explode into violence one day.

Yes, I would feel bad and kind of wanting to be nasty to them if I could.
