I live in Finland and the sun rises at 9:30am, sets at 3pm.

here in Waterll, canada the sun rises at 6.30 am and sets at 5.45 pm

I've been studying this for a long time now and my results are conclusive. The sun always rises sometime in the morning and sets later in the afternoon, which is followed by darkness until the sun rises again! The only exception is on a cloudy or rainy day ... you can't see the sun rise because of the low cloud cover, but it still does it's thing above the clouds!

There is a calculator at the link below. You need the latitude and longitude of your town if it is not on the list.

If not on list, select "Enter Lat/Long -->" at the top of the list, then enter the appropriate numbers.
In Finland, your longitude will be East, so don't forget to enter a minus sing in front of the degrees (only) for longitude.
Then set the date, click on calculate.

You can find your latitude and longitude with Google Earth (point at your town); there are tables and lists on the web.
