If we resolve all of our personal "issues" which irritate us we may get irritated by others who have not resolved those same issues. Likewise, we may dislike people because they have qualities, abilities and so on which we would like to have but haven't. I think we all have the capacity to be very similar to other people but we either choose not be, are conditioned to be otherwise or we are still attempting to have similar qualities. In any event, looking at other people is to look at our own possibilities.

Its called projection, a defense mechanism. And usually when that happens it is a quality that we some how possess but do not consciously realize it. Of course that doesn't always ring true. If for example you hate serial killers does not make you one. You can tell the difference by whether you have some physiological responses, like a churning in the stomach, a muscular pain or strain somewhere, an increase in breathing or heart rate. Things like that.

I would say once in a while. You'll notice it when you just dislike a person for no reason (if its not jealousy).
