The 7th sense is a sense of humour, but not many people have one.

The idea that there are only five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell) comes from Aristotle. It's just a little bit dated, but still what most of us were taught at school.
Here are a few other accepted senses:
the sense of heat (Thermoception)
the sense of pain (Nociception)
the perception of balance (Equilibrioception)
the perception of body awareness (Proprioception)
Depending on your sources there are between 9 and 21 accepted sources.

well it depends. the sixth sense is the ability to see and communicate with the dead, humor is considered a sense, propritety ti considered a sense so basicly it's all a matter of opinion.
i think it does go higher. i have a sixth sense and a seventh that allows me to communicate with the person i was in my past life.
