While I agree with most of your statements, why don't we also demand light rail and a useable public transportation system and stop waisting our tax dollars on more roads that continue the cycle of dependency on this resourse. Are you willing to sacrifice your four wheels of independce for our independence from foriegn oil. We can also bring back some of the policies that were put in place in the 70's and adjust them for today's standards. We have made our homes so big that the benifits of the added insullation have been lost due to the sear size of the place. Lets also not forget that if we would develop alternitive sources of energy we wouldn't need oil. The sun and wind can provide us with all the energy we need. So, I would say that if you are truly against leaf blowers because of the gas they use you should look at other aspects of your life and the ways you can cut back on you dependency on fossil fuels. No, I do not work for a landscaping company and No they are not the only ones that thrive on using cheap gas as you put it.
If a person uses a electric blower, do you think a fossil fuel isn't powering it. I use a rake for the bulk and blower for the small stuff the rake misses. I do not however, beleive that putting down my blower will bring any of our young men and women home from a misguided war.
I think people with dogs, who let them bark at all hours of the day and night and let them do there buisness in other peoples yards, are basicly obnozious but tolorate them.

I think you should devote all of your time to developing leafless trees and then plant them everywhere an existing tree with leaves is growing. Soon, the need for leaf blowing will disappear!
By the way, who exactly has done the studies "suggesting" that brooms and rakes work just as fast? The broom and rake manufacturers? Have you ever watched a person using a blower? There's no way a rake is as fast as, or can move an equal volume of leaves in the same amount of time ... it's impossible ... and a broom simply is the wrong tool for the job!

Considering the minute amount of fuel that a blower uses compared to a soccer mom running errands in a Lincoln Navigator, I suspect approaching double digits. The cost of fuel would have to get high enough to motivate us to make major changes in our life styles. Still, that noisy blower is the right tool for the job in many cases. An many times is the correct economic decision. Paying a laborer $8/Hr for 12 hours to rake compared to 2 hours to blow just doesn't make economic sense, regardless of the fuel. That would be penny wise and pound foolish as Ben Franklin would have said. I really don't think our young men and women are dying over leaf blower fuel.

Has No One told you, It is a WAR, not a good one, but then again there are no good ones.
You must have a postage stamp yard. Some of us have a lot more space to rake. We have an acre and a half. Plus I use and electric blower to make piles then rake.
If you want a serious discussion regarding the disgusting use of petroleum. Let us discuss
