Its a quality standard.
just like ISO

some measures are given under different levels
mostly service based companies have that standard
it is having 5 levels
heighest level is 5

CMM stands for Capability Maturity Model

Its about the standard a software house achives in certain aspect of their working. Their are level from 1 to 5, 1 being lowest.
