I have a suite on the sixth floor of a condominium. Whenever I close the door to the bedroom, a very strange horrible smell builds up. This is especially noticeable in the mornings. I am not sure how to indentify this gas, to see what it is, and where it is coming from. We have had this for many years now. We have emptied the room entirely, and it still fills with this gas smell. We have closed the vents for central airconditioning, and there is still the smell. Whoever sleeps in the room, the skin below their eyes seems to sink in the morning. Note even if the room is left absolutley empty with noone or nothing inside, there is still the smell. I have notified the building management, and they are not doing anything about it. I have even tried to sue to for lack of action, at no vail, with many costs. I am wondering if anyone knows how I can identify this gas, and how I can get rid of it. Help!

- I am the owner. I have already tried to sue the property management but they are not doing anything. Is there any test I can do to see if it is methane? or any other gas? (without setting the house on explosion?) Basically the legal battle is impossible to win, as I have tried it in the last 10 to 15 years living here. Thanks.

- Our stove is running by electricity, not gas. We have a water heater which I think is also by electricity. I can't think of any gas appliance in the apartment.

- Where can I find a "gas company" in Toronto? Is there any gadget I can buy from the store that tells me what gas is in my room? Thanks

Go over your super's head and just call the gas company. If there is a possible leak, they have to come out. Be sure to let them know that no one will do anything about it, and you are concerened for your health and safety.
My husband is in the propane buisness, and if they get a call of a possible leak, they have to come, any time day or night.

My guess is that you are smelling the oderant that they put in gas (probably natural gas) to identify if there is a leak. That is not good. There is no way to get rid of the smell other that to fix the leak. If you live in a complex, the leak could be in any apartment. Ask your neighbors if they have the same problem. Call the gas company, or if you must, the police. So that action will be taken.

This could be from several things. I would get in contact with the owner, then a lawyer to stand by, you may need him and your lease.
The "gas" may be methane from a vent pipe, venting the toilets along the line to the bottom floors. The line may run up through your bedroom wall and isn't glued or, is loose enough to "leak" I've seen it happen before, plumbers are to quick sometimes when building.
Call the health department if the owners will not agree t help, the health department can check for methane gas then, you can go with an attorney from there. To up and including evacuating the unit at their cost (the reason for the attorney) make no threats or warnings, just listen to the attorneys advise and have lease ready.
So many perts per million are acceptable but, it may fill with bedroom closed for the night. check, it could be dangerous.

If not methane then some other gas is seeping in, the owner should be able to check or the health department.

I think with the 'gas' that you are referring you mean fumes!

Because Gas is dangerous and are not allowed in the Canadians' Condominium to be directed to units, however they may use for total hearing of the building in the mechanical room.

The City of Toronto is not a responsible authority to examine the serious hazard in the building with Impartiality; they always have supported the management of the condominium in disputes between owners with corporation.

The legal system in Canada also has supported the strong corporation in disputed between individuals.

I would ask independent contractor to investigate and would give that to the courts for review and judgment.

for the reason that I fee the friendship we've on right here and do not want you to get harm, i counsel that you promote off a minimum of a gallon of water on and around the hollow the position the oven is plugged in. this would circumvent any potential hearth. may opt to do a similar for the microwave, because commonly living house equipment that warmth nutrition are in cahoots with one yet another.

You gotta have a "natural gas" line running under the flooring....or over in the ceiling....IF the CONDO maintenance WON'T take action.....THEN call the GAS COMPANY....BUT WITH A BIG WARNING....THEY WILL SHUT OFF THE GAS AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU except turn on the gas after the problem is fixed.....

Just hope it's your neighbor's gas line problem and not yours.....
They'll have to pull up your floor or ceiling, or wall to find it....
