OK, first of all, you have to decide, dress/skirt/trousers..
Then colour of dress/trousers/skirt:
dress: if posh do, kind off a pretty/elegant/standy-outy colour..RED, because IT's FESTIVE (god I love christmas), black could be groovy, grey is mon favourite colour at the mom. but anything will do...just make sure you match the shoes, o and not beige, for my sake...
if casual do, again pretty much anything, and again, no beige...its so hard to match anything nice with!
skirt: basically the same as dress...but make sure it co-ordinates with EVERYTHING!
trousers: I would reccomend black/grey pinstriped/mannish style trousers, that are fab, just not tweed or plaid, its so twee!
ok, so than you gotta match the top..
cos its christmas get one of those fastive sheeny-esque tops, OR, wear a skinny knit jumper, any thing will do!
and now,
shoes and accessories
basically colour coordinate and match, remember, thare is no such thing as too many bangles (if they're nice) and christmas is the only time when it doesn't look utterly foolish to wear incredibly HIGH heels, and also, no-one laughs if you fall over!

Well, depending on the dress code, and what you have in your wardrobe.
I like wearing my white pants and chiffon top to almost anywhere. I usually dress up or down with shoes. Glass shoes for dressy and flip flops for casual. Black pants also always looks smart and classy, without being over dressy.
It of course also depends on yourself - I prefer long pants to dresses, you may prefer a dress! Contact me if you wanna toss around some ideas!

I think a little black dress is your best option... easy to find in any store, easy to match with any shoes and since is Christmas I would wear red accessories.
